BUCKLAND, BUESSINGER, COLLINS, JENNINGS, PRICE, VAN, WHITTLESEY posted by Steve Aberle on Monday, February 19, 2001

Referring to the PRICE and JENNINGS surnames shown on the http://www.rootsweb.com/~ohportag/hist014.htm web page, does anyone know if: 1. William PRICE was related to Judge Robert PRICE, the namesake of Pricetown? 2. Elizabeth PRICE was a daughter/niece of William PRICE and Barbara VAN BUESSINGER? 3. Elizabeth PRICE was a sister/cousin to Susanna PRICE who married Solomon JENNINGS, Daniel’s brother? Also, the obits of Elisha WHITTLESEY (1783-1863) indicate that his daughter Lucy WHITTLESEY (1817-1897) was the wife of Stephen BUCKLAND, and that another daughter, Harriet WHITTLESEY (1810-1892), was the wife of Dr. Lyman COLLINS.

CARIS, GATES, KARAS, RICHARDSON posted by Deb Whitehorse on Thursday, March 1, 2001

Looking for information that would connect my ggg grandfather, Jacob Fred KARAS, to the CARIS family of Portage County, OH. Jacob Fred KARAS, b. 1835 in Tiffin, OH to Jacob KARAS and Sarah J. (last name unknown). Don't know if he was born in Tiffin, Seneca County; Tiffin Twp in Adams Cnty or Tiffin Twp in Defiance Cnty. The 1840 Ohio Census places the family at Bellefontaine, Logan County, Ohio; and the name is spelled "CARIS" on the census. Jacob and Sarah KARAS born between 1800-1810. Besides Jacob Fred, there were two daughters, Lucinda (m. GATES), and Sarah (m. Lyman RICHARDSON), and another son, John. Jacob Fred and Sarah moved to Wisconsin sometime in the 1850s. Jacob Fred KARAS 1909 obit lists as a survivor brother John KARUS(again, different spelling) of Bellefontaine, OH. Thank in advance.

WALFORD, WOLFORD, WOOLFORD posted by Lorraine Rohloff on Saturday, March 10, 2001

I wonder if someone would be so kind as to check Portage County, Ohio the 1840 Federal Census and see if the surname Wolford, Walford or Woolford appears. My gg grandfather, Jefferson, was married there in 1837 and his wife's name was Eleanor. I would appreciate having any information appearing on any family member of these surnames. He had several siblings. If you find anything, please contact me directly through email and you can either attach the documents to an email or send them by snail mail, which I will give to you after you contact me. I'll be happy to reimburse you any cost you incur. Thanks. Lorraine

BARNARD, BECKLEY, MALLORY posted by Judy "Mallory" Holthaus on Thursday, March 15, 2001

My G.G.granddads brother Alexander Hawley Mallory b. Sept. 20, 1821 N.Y. came to Iowa 1838 with his parents. He married May 5, 1852 Frances Laura Beckely born Oct. 15, 1832 d/o Walter Beckley of Ct. d. Ravenna Ohio Jan. 3, 1893 & Maria "Butler" Beckely who d. Texas. Alexander & Fanny were in 1856 Clayton Co. Iowa census with Herbert W. b. May 1, 1853 @ 3, Clarence B. Mallory b.June 29, 1855 d. Dec. 29, 1855,. I learned they also had Richad E. Mallory b. Apr. 2, 1857, Walter L. Mallory b. May 8, 1859, Laura M. b. Sept. 24, 1863, Florence D. b. NOv. 29, 1865 d. Feb. 12, 1894. Clues lead me to believe this family went to Ohio, and this area. I found a Richard E. Mallory who married Feb. 26, 1990 wayne, Ohio to Ida E. Barnard, and he might be Alexander's son. Calif. relatives had a studio picture of Mrs. Fanny Mallory with a daugher, and "20 Anjahager Falls Ave, Akron, Ohio" in on the btm. I have a lot of Genealogy info. to share, and can trace our line to Peter Mallory of New Haven, Conn.

STODDARD posted by Brenda Guertin on Monday, March 19, 2001

I am trying to locate my STODDARD ancestors in Portage County. My great grandfather was Cassius Marcellus Norman Stoddard, who is said to have grown up in Portage County in the 1840's and 1850's. He later moved to Kentucky and was in the jewelry business. In a brief biography I have on him, Cassius's father is listed as Henry STODDARD from Connecticut, a bridge builder. I know there was a Henry W. Stoddard listed in the 1840 Portage County census, and I am trying to determine if this was Cassius's father and my great-great grandfather. (I haven't come across any other Henry Stoddards in the county during that time period.) Any information, ideas, or clues anyone can provide will be greatly appreciated. Thanks! Brenda

Hi! Just an update... . Am still looking for John R. and Susannah Cobb Richardson. Since 1999 when the original query was posted I've discovered that Susannah was indeed born in New York... and that she and John had at least two daughters in Ohio - Eunice born in 1828 and Mary. They did live for a time in Ashtabula - but they were married in Portage County. Would love to hear from anyone with any further information! Thanks, Cherre
